I am helping a friend bring his baby back out on the road. The poor vehicle has been sitting for a while and the battery is long gone. Do you have any suggestions in regards to a replacement battery?

The Battery in mine is pretty small a 631 and I have even seen people use Motorbike Batteries. The requirements are pretty small and on mine the alternator gives lots of trouble. And it often runs without being charged for some time. (This would be greatly reduced if running with lights on) I would not imagine that you need a big one unless you are considering using it for weight distribution.

Thanks for the help. We ended up using a battery designed for Mazda's Miata, Unos, or Roadster, the name depending upon which country you are in. Not quite sure if it is a 619, but the thing fits due to its low profile. Where is your battery located? I have seen photos of it attached to the engine compartment in front of the passenger side legspace, in the trunk, and then there is my friend who has it mounted in the space above the passenger leg area in the engine compartment. Do you think that some sort of light heat shielding would prolong the batteries life. He has gone through two in one year.

There may be something draining the battery maybe get it checked.
As far as I know the battery goes on the left in front of the passenger as you said. Mine has a simple bracket that holds it in place. It does not seem to be affected by the heat. From what I can tell it’s a good spot to have it.
Mounting it above the passenger may be a little undesirable. It may be hard to get to interfere with where your passenger’s legs go and leak acid on them. The other thing is that the wiper motor gets mounted there.
Another place I have heard of them being mounted is in the back above the fuel tank. For weight distribution this is usually if you mount a heavier motor and need to distribute your weight. More evenly.
